All that remains of this year's 4th of July is the ash in the air from all the spectacular fireworks shows and maybe some grease on the grill from cookouts across the country. And a very tired me after a weekend in Galveston with my family. I didn't make it to Austin with Caroline after a difficult decision to refrain from driving to Austin for the third time in less than three weeks, so MC and I took rain checks.
It was definitely worth my while to spend that extra time with my family the summer before I leave. One plus side is that I'll be closer to this cutie and his family next year.
We have many gamers in our family. I mainly speak of the kids. But we can't forget Chris and Meems with their love for Scrabble and Words with Friends. And our mega-competitors Dad and Erin. Word to the wise...don't play Boggle with Erin, unless you're really into losing.
Ceci-- the soon-to-be second grader who has the smarts to be a soon-to-be fourth grader
Even Ty enjoyed his little vaca from his usual routine.
Mother and daughter
Mimi and Pops with their oldest grandchild
And then the girlies
It's fun not being the youngest anymore. I still get to play and have fun with the kids, but I have yet to reach the age where I'm assigned cooking duties!
This isn't even all of us. And all of us from this weekend doesn't even include our whole family. Of course Carolyn and Art celebrated 4th of July Austrian style. Jimmy took advantage of a last minute opportunity to go to Hawaii...rough life. And Andy spent the long weekend on the same lake I was supposed to go to. Luckily, there's always enough of us to go around. The question is whether there is enough food to go around. But, that's for another day and another post.
Happy birthday, 'Merica.
