Loyal Longhorns

My dorm, and the UT campus in general, has become somewhat of a ghost town as of today. The long weekend has tempted many college students to head back to their hometowns. While I gave the trip home a brief thought, I ultimately decided to stay here. The silence has been soothing and the relaxation has been rejuvenating. It's a stark contrast from the first half of my weekend, which was filled with large crowds, screaming fans, and lots of longhorn pride. It's that time of year again--football season!

And so the festivities begin! Here's Tori (a fellow Houstonian who went to Lamar) and I before we brave the outdoors. Merl (Mary Elizabeth), Tori and I spent today shopping at The Domain, which is essentially Austin's outdoor version of The Galleria. I'm kind of obsessed and plan to make many trips back.

Roomie love at its finest!

First stop was the Fiji tailgate with my favorite HP girls Maggie and Kelly

Already experiencing a burnt orange and white overload? All of us Hardin gals came with an ample supply of that color scheme in preparation for football season.  But, seeing that we all have similar favorite shopping destinations, we're bound to end up with some matchy matchiness. Laine and I were basically twins from top to bottom. She went to Episcopal in Houston and her little sister is best friends with my cousin Sydney. If there's one thing I've learned here it's that UT greek life makes this world seem real small.

One of new friends, Kelly, and greatest old friends, Caroline, becoming friends!

Next was onward to the Kappa Sig tailgate outside of the stadium.

My friend from childhood, Lindsey, and I at the tailgate. It's been nearly ten years since we've seen each other on a regular basis, but it feels like not much has changed since we were besties in elementary school.

Due to a fluke in the ticket system, several of the freshmen seating groups ended up having some of the best seats in the house. Including mine! For awhile we were front row at the end zone. We're going to embrace this privilege this season because I feel like karma will cause us to have the nosebleeds we deserve next year.

These smiles worn all day carried with us throughout the night as we rolled all over the Rice owls in a 34-9 victory. After a full year of cheering on the sidelines, it was different to be in the stands, but I think I can get used to this routine. Tully Stadium, red and white, and mustangs seem to be a figment of my past as I become a loyal longhorn. Enjoy your holiday!
