Forever Young

My first birthday spent away from home was a success. Despite the ill timing of it falling on a Monday, I barely noticed since I was surrounded by all my friends from midnight to midnight.

I received an assortment of cards, several of which contained long handwritten notes.

My friend and pledge sister Mimi handcrafted this amazing card clearly displaying why she is a design major.

Even Hardin never fails to remember a resident's birthday.

Many of my friends were far more generous than I deserve and surprised me with handpicked gifts. Julianne got me a necklace with a dainty B clasp which has now been implemented into my everyday wear alongside my Kappa fleur de lis and string of pearls that Carolyn gave the sisters for being her maids of honor. Macygurl was kind enough to bring me quite an array of goodies when she came to visit; Merl gave me a darling kelly green blouse; Caroline surprised me with a pancake breakfast; my parents sent me two dozen Tiffs and a pair of wedges which are currently in transit from Houston to Hardin.

But, one of my favorite gifts is this Keel's Simple Diary from Kelsey. It's one of those things that's a perfect gift because you'd never feel the need to buy it for yourself, but you realize how much you love it when it's given to you. The daily entries are quirky, random and fun, yet somehow they always find a way to mold perfectly to your day. I've done one per night and have quickly become addicted to the way it can make any ordinary day seem just a little extraordinary.

Laura was kind enough to host a small gathering of my close friends to her apartment for my nineteenth.

They even baked me a cake that was sure to melt any chocolate lover's heart as well as melt in your mouth.

In true college fashion, we just grabbed forks and dug into the still warm deliciousness.

Needless to say, it was gone in no time.

It was fun to have all of my closest friends under one roof.

Love you both dearly!

It was a wonderful day from start to finish. Indeed, nineteen is a rather insignificant age. Unlike turning eighteen, you are awarded no new privileges like eighteen, but there is a bittersweetness to it as you enter your last year as a teenager. I can vividly remember the eve of my thirteenth birthday and proudly announcing to my dad that I was going to be a teenager the next day. These six years have flown, but I can barely wait for the many milestones that are to come during my twenties. But, for the time being, I'll relish in my final year as a teen, and try not to grow up too fast.
